What Is PPC (Pay Per Click) Advertising?

Pay Per Click is a form of Internet Advertising that is offered by Search Engines and content networks which include other websites.

3 Major Players

The 3 major players that offer Pay Per Click advertising are Google, Yahoo and MSN. Google has the biggest market share of the above 3 online media companies.

How PPC Search Engines Work.

How PPC (Pay Per Click) marketing works is an advertiser (I.E. website/business owner) can purchase and place an Ad for their products and services on the results page of a Search Engine or Website.

A Pay Per Click Ad usually appears beside the search results or content of a search engine or website.

Example Of PPC Ad On Google.

Anytime a visitor clicks on a Pay Per Click ad the advertiser is charged a pre-determined amount of money for example 25 cents per click.

PPC Works Like An Auction.

The PPC advertising model works like an Auction system such as Ebay where the rules of supply and demand apply. The amount you pay for an item on Ebay (for example a used canon digital camera) directly depends on how many other potential buyers are interested. The more people who bid on that digital camera on E-bay the more it will cost the Auction winner in the end.

Pay Per Click Advertising works in the same manner as E-bay with the exception that you bid on keywords that relate to your business instead of merchandise and services.

Pay Per Click Process

The Pay Per Click advertising model works like the following, A business owner with a website decides they want to get targeted traffic to their website to promote their products and services.

  1. They decide to use the Pay Per Click advertising model to generate that targeted traffic to their website.
  2. The advertiser comes up with a list of keywords that their target market would use to find information related to the products and services that they sell.
  3. The advertiser would then go to a Pay Per Click search engine such as Google and open an account.
  4. The next step the advertiser would then create a PPC marketing campaign to promote their business.
  5. The advertiser would then upload all of their targeted keywords into that campaign and then create little text ads to match.
  6. To complete the process the advertiser would set a maximum price per click for every keyword they want to advertise under.
  7. The final step would be to make your newly created campaign live.
